Palomar Performing Arts provides a vibrant educational environment that cultivates creative learning experiences between students, teachers and community through the study and practice of dance, music, theatre and collaborative performance.

Each year, the Performing Arts Department provides a one-of-a-kind educational experience for more that 3,000 music, theatre and dance students, and the Performing Arts Complex hosts up to 30 shows, serving tens of thousands of community members in North San diego County.

The new Performing Arts Complex houses two state-of-the-art performance venues, two beautiful dance studios, an acting studio and fully equipped costume shop and and scene shop.

Job Summary

Serves as instructional support and technical director for theatre, music and dance classes and performances with responsibility for theatrical scenery, lighting and other technical aspects of staging performances; works with technical theatre students in all aspects of scenery construction, fabrication and assembly, and the rigging of stage lighting equipment and software.

Essential Functions

 

Works with faculty, designers and directors of stage productions and events to implement staging and scenery to meet production requirements.

  • Provides input to production designers on design elements, approaches and aesthetics to ensure accuracy and technical/cost feasibility of individual units of production staging and scenery.
  • Ensures that Health and Safety Code requirements are addressed to ensure the safety of performers and the audience.
  • Works with directors, hourly and temporary workers, technical theatre students and others to assemble and prepare the stage and backstage areas for productions and performances.
  • Serves as master carpenter in constructing the more complex scenic units,rigging of overhead scenery.
  • Works with technical theatre faculty to prepare instructional materials and lab exercises on methods and tools commonly used in a theatre scene shop and backstage area.
  • Oversees day-to-day activities in technical theatre laboratories; ensures the scene shop is ready for use during scheduled hours and that equipment is in sound working order.
  • Monitors to ensure lab closing procedures are followed; maintains a clean, safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Provides instruction and demonstrates safety procedures for the use and operation of a variety of hand and power tools, including, but not limited to radial table and arm saws, grinders and sanders, staple and fastener guns, propane torches, drills, welders, adhesive applicators, routers, cutters; monitors students in the laboratory to ensure safety procedures are followed; responds to student questions regarding procedures and requirements.

 

Terms of Employment

This position is a 26 hours per week temporary assignment.

 

Compensation

$20-$24 per hour (depending on education and experience)

Job Summary

 

Perform a variety of technical work in the construction, repair, maintenance, operation and rigging of theatrical equipment and effects. Assist in the supervision of student crews, function as stage manager and troubleshooter for any number of events in the Performing Arts Complex. Install, program and operate various types of lighting, audio and video/projection equipment.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Assist in supporting departmental and external performances and rehearsals, including theatre, dance and music events;
  • Perform technical theatre carpentry, painting, electrical, and basic audio work;
  • Construct, repair and operate theatrical lighting, sound and scenic elements;
  • Set up theatre equipment in accordance with users’ written requests;
  • Enforce applicable safety standards and theatre rules; secure theatre after events;
  • Act as Production Stage Manager and/or Troubleshooter for various departmental and non-departmental events.
  • Assist in maintaining and providing security for all tools, equipment and District property in the theatre.

 

 

Terms of Employment

This position is a 26 hours per week temporary assignment. Schedule is highly variable and includes nights and weekends.

 

Experience

Equivalent of college-level coursework in a related discipline and three years of full time equivalent experience within the specific field.

 

Compensation

$20 per hour (depending on education and experience)

Job Summary

Assists in the coordination of marketing and publicity for performing arts productions and concerts using various school, community and commercial media sources and outlets, including social media and online presence; prepares promotional materials in both print and web formats.

Essential Functions

 

  • Contribute to the uploading of the department website and websites belonging to outside publications and advertising entities.
  • Assist with Social Media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
    • Curate relevant content to reach the Department’s students and patrons.
    • Assist in creating, curating, and managing all published content (images, video and written).
    • Engage users by monitoring, listening and responding in a “Social” way.
    • Conduct online advocacy and promote events with special offers.
    • Develop and expand community with outreach efforts.
    • Participate in design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, and other online outlets).
    • Assist in the design, creation and management of promotions and Social ad campaigns.
  • Proof Performing Arts/Creative Services work flow (projects) including posters, programs and season brochure.
  • Create, label and assist in maintaining Fall and Spring Season performance files.

Terms of Employment

This position is an 18 hours per week assignment. Schedule during normal business hours can be arranged to fit in with other school/work obligations.

Experience

Equivalent of college-level coursework in a related discipline.

Compensation

$12 per hour
